From the dark days of The Battle of Britain ... and The Blitz ... to the thunderous ‘round-the-clock bombing campaign of Bomber Command ... the RCAF, 8th USAAF and RAF ... visit the airfields from which the Spitfires and Hurricanes rose to meet the enemy, and from which the Lancasters and Flying Fortresses ’bombed up’ and headed toward Germany.

Touch history ... the old leather and oil ... the sights and sounds of the heroism that defended Britain against the mighty Luftwaffe, and then at great cost, carried the war towards victory.

ITINERARY

Day 1
Wednesday May 13

Depart from North America for your overnight transatlantic flight to London, except for those who may choose to leave for London sooner to extend their trip.

Day 2
Thursday May 14

Upon arrival at Heathrow Airport we are greeted by our coach, which takes us into central London for a tour of the city highlights guided by a local expert. You will enjoy some free time in the afternoon, following which we gather together for a Welcome Dinner in the city. Overnight London - The Tower Hotel. [D]
 
Day 3
Friday May 15

We rise early and escape the big city, heading southwest to Kent and the channel coast. We'll visit the Battle of Britain Memorial at Folkestone, followed by a visit at the Battle of Britain Museum at nearby Hawkinge. A short walk takes us to nearby Hawkinge CWGC Cemetery. We enjoy lunch atop the cliffs overlooking the English Channel, then make our way back to toward greater London. Overnight Dartford - Mercure The Brands Hatch Hotel.  [B,L]
 

Day 4
Saturday May 16

Today features sites which will be of particular interest to Canadian travelers. We start at RAF Biggin Hill where we'll see both the Heritage Hanger and the Memorial Museum. After a lunch (at a restaurant frequented by flyboys) we spend some time in the afternoon with some reflective time at Brookwood CWGC Cemetery, the final resting place of more than 5,000 who served, and at the Runnymede Memorial (also known as the Air Forces Memorial), which commemorates over 20,000 airmen who died over the skies of Europe and have no known grave. Day 5
Sunday May 17
Day Five begins with a tour of the amazing and recently expanded Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge, with its subterrain control centre and an amazing collection of aircraft and interactive displays. Following lunch at a nearby historic site we round out the day with a visit to the official Royal Air Force Museum at RAF Hendon in the northern suburbs of London - which in 2018 was greatly expanded and upgraded for the 100th Anniversary of the RAF. Day 6
Monday May 18

Bentley Priory Museum was the home of RAF Fighter Command and this is our first stop of the day. We then travel northeast to begin our journey into the English countryside, with a visit to the amazing Shuttleworth Collection and its extensive array of aircraft. Day 7
Tuesday May 19
Today's local excursion begins at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, a must-see visit. For sit for lunch at the historic Petwood Hotel, whose bar was frequented by officers of the legendary Dambusters squadron. Later we visit RAF Coningsby and the home of "Battle of Britain Memorial Flight," one of only two flying Lancaster bombers. Overnight Lincoln - DoubleTree by Hilton. [B,L]

Day 8
Wednesday May 20

Our morning takes us to the recently opened International Bomber Command Centre, and in the afternoon we visit RAF Scampton Heritage Centre from which the Dambusters took flight. Overnight Lincoln - DoubleTree by Hilton. [B,L]

Day 9
Thursday May 21

We venture south into East Anglia to experience sites of interest to American travelers who seek to connect with the USAAF. We'll tour Horham Airfield Museum, home to the 95th Bomber Group, and the truly unique Horham Hospital. Following lunch we take a short drive south to visit Parham Airfield Museum, home of 390th Bomber Group. Overnight Cambridge - Hilton City Centre. [B,L]

Day 10
Friday May 22

Today is a opportunity to experience the broader history of military aviation. We take the coach into the quiet Chelmsford countryside to tour the amazing Stow Marie's Great War Aerodrome, a hidden gem. In the afternoon we drive to the coast to visit the Bawdsey Air Radar Museum where we learn the story of the early advances in technology that helped turn the tide of the war. Day 11
Saturday May 23

This morning we begin in reflection at Cambridge American Cemetery at Madingley, final resting place and commemorative site of nearly 9,000 U.S. service personnel who gave their lives in the skies over Nazi Europe. We then spend the balance of the day doing what we love to do best, watching airplanes fly ... at the thrilling Duxford Spring Air Festival! We conclude our journey with a farewell lunch or dinner. Day 12
Sunday May 24

Morning departure for those returning home, while others may extend their stay at their option. Buffet/Box breakfast.

Note:  Clients should keep in mind that minor variances are always possible during the actual tour based on the need to adapt to circumstances we encounter during our travels. $1200 CAD Single Supplement (the additional cost if traveling on your own - one person in the room - limited spaces available)
